Bentley developed an umbilical hernia over the past little while, so we took him to get an evaluation. The surgeon told us that the hole in his stomach lining was larger than most and since it seemed to get worse over time, he recommended we get it taken care of.
Here's the hernia.
So last Wednesday we took him to the new Children's Hospital to have his outpatient surgery. The hospital was VERY nice and is now only 10 mins away from our house - extra nice! We were there for half the day - with Gma Sheri & Gma Angie & Gpa Brian keeping us company. Most of the time was waiting, and answering questions. The procedure took about an hour. They made a little incision under and on his belly button, stitched up his stomach, then stitched up his belly button & viola! Afterward the surgeon told us that it was a good idea to have gotten it taken care of because it was a pretty good sized hole it was doubtful it would have closed on it own. It's nice to get a pat on the back from those who know what they're doing.
The rest of the day he ate like a horse and was very wobbly on his feet (sooo cute!) But he seemed to recover very smoothly & nicely; until 2 days later when he got the stomach flu! He was sick all weekend long! Poor little guy! He finally started to feel better then dad got sick. Then a day later I was sick - but not as sick as the others - thank goodness! But Bentley has recovered very well. He wasn't disturbed by the incision - didn't play with it or scratch it - so everything worked out really well.
A few days afterward.
This is Bentley's 2nd outpatient surgery in 8 months. And since he's only been alive for 15 months, let's hope he doesn't make it a habit!!

Aww, poor baby. Thanks for clarifying the whole getting him fixed thing. You would've had some angry grandparents after you!
Bless his heart! What a trooper! Babies bounce back really fast after surgery. I remember Raydn's second surgery, by the afternoon he was down playing crawling like nothing had happened. He didn't miss a beat! It's hard though to see your baby go though something you can't control. Good Job! p.s. My Dad says he is so cute walking around! I am jealous that I haven't seen him!
What a cute FAT belly that boy has! It is looking great. It's nice to see pictures again on your blog!
Thanks everyone! I love you all. His belly button looks even better now. The only indication someting was done was that his belly button is kind of hard underneath. Hopefully that'll go away in time...if not, that's a small price to pay considering what could have happened!
By any chance were you referring to Simon. Simon's was huge!!! I could barely see Bentley's. Now Simon just has an outie.
